Catholic Youth Camp (CYC) thrives because of dedicated volunteers who are willing to share their time, talents, and faith with the next generation. Volunteering at CYC is more than helping at a summer camp—it’s an opportunity to serve the Church and make a lasting impact in the lives of young people.
As a CYC volunteer, you’ll help:
Foster a faith-filled, joyful environment for campers
Support children as they grow in faith, confidence, and character
Be a positive Catholic role model for incoming 4th–6th graders
Build meaningful relationships with fellow volunteers
Serve the mission of the Diocese of Fort Wayne–South Bend
Many volunteers describe their time at CYC as deeply rewarding—for both the campers and themselves.
"I love spending time with the campers, being immersed in God’s beautiful nature, and growing stronger in the faith. Every year is a new learning experience, and every time I leave with a greater sense of God’s love for me!"
-Senior Counselor, 2019
“CYC is a unique opportunity to see the fullness of our Catholic faith alive in our daily lives. It’s incredible to watch faith come alive for kids—not just in prayer and the sacraments, but in the joy, friendships, and everyday moments of camp.”
-Craft Leader, 2025
We welcome volunteers 16 years old or older who are committed to the mission of Catholic Youth Camp and are willing to serve with joy, responsibility, and faith. Prior experience working with children is helpful but not required—training and support are provided. Each group will be lead by two (2) counselors, one of them being 18 or older.
Counselors may assist in a variety of ways, including:
Cabin group leaders
Activity leaders and helpers
Faith formation and prayer support
Behind-the-scenes support (set-up, decorations, etc.)
In alignment with FWSB Safe Environment Guidelines, all cabins with minors must be staffed with two (2) adults, at least one over the age of 25. Because many of our counselor volunteers do not fit that age requirement, we rely on dedicated parents to come join us overnight in the cabins with the campers. Volunteers are invited to arrive for campfire at (Time), join for night prayer in the cabins before bed, and enjoy a wonderful camp style breakfast in the morning before departure.
Chaperones may assist in a variety of ways, including:
Sharing briefly a formative faith moment
Added adult presence
Overall prayer support (during the week as a whole)
The safety of our campers is a top priority. All volunteers must:
Be able to become Safe Environment certified
Comply with all diocesan policies and procedures
Follow camp guidelines regarding supervision, overnight arrangements, and safety
If you feel called to serve or would like more information, we’d love to hear from you.
